Motivation

 It has dawned upon me that the notion of practice was missing from my methods for mathematics, which became a full-blown disaster a year later. One must go beyond memorizing and practice them to be pragmatic! I trace this problem back to biology with Sister John Ann, when the division began to separate. It was also hidden during the newpaper route in Mountaintop and showed up subtlely  at Zollinger Harned. The jobs were drudgery, paid poorly, and were well below my intellectual abilities.

Could it be that the shortcut of memorization instead of practicing led to my lack of finishing what I start? I must explore the possibility. It also may have to do with the habit of passively reading over and over the same passages for comprehension.

Much of it reminds me of the program at Penn State, but much updated from 1984. It explores a dimension that didn’t exist with computers.

There were the old standards, such as which business to be in, strategy, and tactics. Ecommerce integrates the standards, and there’re always guests with their examples of their own businesses and how they built them. Another aspect was market size and on how to segment the market. There are quizzes after each unit to emphasize the concepts. I found it helpful to note all the questions and answers, especially the ones I had wrong. Sometimes – like tests at Block – have more value when taken aside to study.
Business Model Analysis included until economics and engines of growth. It brought back the former program and its numerizable concepts. Does any MBA really think that everything can be explained in numbers? Then platforms brought it into this century. A study of platforms led to assessment and more examples.
The next unit explored segmentation and its significance. The last on is value propositions, which should be complete this week, and with it the close of the second module of the ten.

Today I had a webinar with the Philadelphia Networking Group. It was about a Networking Toolbox and how to use LinkedIn. We also had leads on other fora.

Daniel Stanton has a group of thirteen lessons on supply chain management. I inadvertently had taken the first part, so I took the second one. Much of it repeats what I had learned in the MBA program at Penn State.

Second, I used the stimulus to take a course for certification on accounts payable – already done – and the Power MBA. I also had many problems with the house, so far $6700 in repairs, out of the stimulus. Fortunately, my mortgage is paid off since 2017. My unemployment, after Reaganic taxes. is about the income I had with a four-day workweek there.

In sum, I have been neither bored nor lonely over the past eight months. Besides Block – which will start another tax season – I even took a course for certified Excel, and I’m pursuing other courses with LinkedIn and the Great Course among others.

I just finished another segment of the Power MBA. I may be three fifths done. I just haven’t begun to go over the courses. I didn’t find the Accounts Receivable certification particularly new. Tomorrow I will try to summarize the various projects I’m on, and what I’m learning on the internet dairy. I should continue with academic subjects.

I was watching the Stuff Bread on Mystery Science Theater 3000 when I thought of the extra effort to get ahead, but I don’t know how. Power MNA now moves into the fourth of five units. Block has barriers on the extra course. One ends in the second unit and the other won’t let me back in, forcing me to take the test blindly.

I was sitting here on the fiftieth anniversary of my purchasing my first television set., and I wonder what had happened to my faith in ambition through capitalism. Since 1969, it’s become nothing but an oligarchy of not what you know, but who knows you! I can’t think of a more discouraging system to the detriment of the economy. Over the past half century, we’re seen the descent to another Gilded Age. So, when does the next Progressive movement begin? Hardly the Republicans would lead it like Theodore Roosevelt!

My five hours at Block produced one client. I just reached the total from last year with a week to go. This coming week has three days left, depending upon the final day. That day runs 12-8, so the final day is out.

The trip to 1976 led me again to Morrison and Boyd (Organic Chemistry). Then I came around a curious question about the geometry of methane -- just what shape is a tetrahedron? After all these years, I never visualized what a tetrahedron resembles. Morris and Boyd does not make the three dimensions clear.
Earlier today, I read an article on emotional intelligence of which I'll elaborate later on. Needless to day, it does cause me to examine many past situations in life, especially the faux pas at Lenox. I think it's a matter of control and the neglect of that control. In both cases, I missed part of the explanation.

November 1985

All this thought of November 1985 brings back those memories of the second year when I was a hostage of  Reaganomics. I can't figure whether it was worse trying to obtain employment in worthless Wilkes-Barre or changing majors om State College before I discovered the result would be futile regardless.
However, I did find my political cartoons which stimulated my creative talents for a good five months when I finally received an offer of employment. I learned much in the beginning of 1986, for which I remain grateful.
